Welcome to the Foundation for Theosophical Studies

In 1992, the Foundation was set up as the charitable arm of the Theosophical Society in England. Now that the Theosophical Society in England itself has charitable status, the Foundation has handed over its activities to the Society and is no longer operational. All funds generously donated to the Foundation have transferred to the Society and will continue to be used for charitable purposes in support of promoting theosophy and theosophical activities.

The Theosophical Society in England

The Theosophical Society is a worldwide body – a theosophical community - whose primary object is Universal Brotherhood without distinction based on the realization that life, and all its diverse forms, human and non-human, is indivisibly One.  Seen as revolutionary when it was founded in 1875, the Society draws together those of goodwill whatever their religion (if any), social status, gender or ethnicity.  It holds lectures, seminars, residential Summer Schools, weekend conferences and study groups, on the ageless wisdom of theosophy.  The Society upholds freedom of thought and imposes no belief on its members, who are united by a common search for Truth and desire to learn the meaning and purpose of existence through study, reflection, self-responsibility and loving service.

Theosophy

Theosophy stands for knowledge of truth.  It is a synthesis of Science, Religion and Philosophy, and throws a flood of light on all these areas of knowledge.  It is an ancient tradition which has shown that by exploring the depths of our own nature we are able to reach an experience of Truth – an understanding of that Wisdom which is the seat of all spiritual knowledge.

Fundamental Unity of all People

We find there are many uniting principles in all the great religions, esoteric teachings, philosophies and sciences of the world, and a study of Theosophy shows there is a fundamental unity between all people.  We are all one family.

The Theosophical Society encourages an appreciation of the unity of all people and is committed to a search for truth in all things, mutual understanding and freedom of thought.  Mankind is not yet perfect and whilst there is unrest in the world, it is necessary to strive to bridge the gap and learn to live in harmony with one another.
